El primer tomo está dedicado a quienes gobernaron México en el siglo XIX. Así, Guadalupe Victoria, Antonio López de Santa Ana, Benito Juárez, Porfirio Díaz, son protagonistas de capítulos donde, sin ignorar los rasgos biográficos, se explican los contextos sociopolíticos en que gobernaron.
