La sociedad azteca estaba dividida en veinte clanes llamados calpullis, donde la religión ejercía una influencia predominante, que consistía en grupos de personas conectadas por parentesco, divisiones territoriales, la invocación de un dios particular y la continuación de familias antiguas unidas por un vínculo de parentesco. biológicos y religiosos que derivaron del culto al dios titular.
