La obra de César termina con el fin de Pompeyo en Egipto. No obstante, la segunda guerra civil romana continuó por un tiempo a cargo de los líderes optimate restantes y los hijos de Pompeyo Magno. Las siguientes obras continuadoras relatan lo ocurrido en Alejandría, África y España.
